Electrical work for Christchurch homes
From a faulty socket to a full rewire, we work on homes across Christchurch, Selwyn and Waimakariri. That includes older houses with wiring and switchboards that need a closer look.
What we cover
Switchboard upgrades
We replace ceramic fuses and fuse wire with modern circuit breakers and RCD protection. Most straightforward switchboard upgrades can be completed in a day.
Full and partial rewires
We replace old rubber and cloth-insulated cable through the ceiling space and under the floor where access allows. This keeps holes in your walls to a minimum.
Faults and repairs
Tripping circuits, dead sockets and flickering lights all have an underlying cause. We test the circuit and find the fault before replacing anything.
Lighting
Downlights, outdoor lighting and security lights, with switches placed for how you use the room and move through the house.
Renovations and extensions
Electrical work for kitchens, bathrooms, sleepouts and extensions. We coordinate with your builder and other trades so the job keeps moving.
Heat pumps, ovens and hobs
We install dedicated circuits where an appliance needs one. We also check that the switchboard and supply can handle the extra load.
Older homes need a proper look first
Many Christchurch homes were built before 1970. Their wiring was not designed to run a heat pump, an induction hob and an EV charger at the same time.
We check the existing circuits and switchboard before recommending any work. If the board still has ceramic fuses, we can usually upgrade it in a day. We will also explain whether the rest of the wiring needs attention now or can safely wait.
Common questions
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost?
The cost depends on the size of the board and the condition of the existing circuits. We inspect it on site before giving you a written quote. The visit is free and the quote is valid for 30 days.
Do I have to move out during a rewire?
Usually not. We work through the house in stages and keep power on where we can. A full rewire will need some planned outages, which we arrange with you in advance.
Can you work with my insurance repair?
Yes. We can inspect and repair wiring damaged by ground movement. We can also provide the scope and quote in the format your insurance assessor needs.
Do you issue a Certificate of Compliance?
Yes. We issue a Certificate of Compliance for all prescribed electrical work and send it with your invoice.

This is a demonstration form
Nothing was sent or stored. Southline Electrical is fictional, and this form demonstrates how an enquiry would work on a real trade website.
On a real website, the enquiry would arrive in the office inbox with the suburb and type of work already included.
